MISSION of the PHILMONT PUBLIC LIBRARY

It is the mission of the Philmont Public Library (Library) to offer all members of our community
a variety of resources and opportunities with which to further their knowledge and cultural
enrichment. We especially recognize our responsibility to serve the youth of our community by
fostering the excitement of learning and the joy of reading. The Library’s ultimate mission is to
serve and be responsive to the changing needs of our community, continually seeking to
establish and promote an environment in which the personal and cultural diversity of all
individuals is accepted and respected by all staff and patrons.

BASIS OF SELECTION for the LIBRARY BOARD OF TRUSTEES

  • Support of outreach to all patrons, youth, and underserved members of the community
  • Ability to work cooperatively with other trustees, the Library Director, staff, and the public
  • Commitment to devoting the time and effort needed to prepare for and participate in monthly meetings of the Board of Trustees on the first Wednesday of every month at 7:00 PM
  • Commitment to resourceful collaboration in committees such as the Policies, Building, Arts, Programming, Finance, and Long-range Planning Committees
  • Commitment to serving a five-year term as a trustee of the Library
  • Residence in the Village of Philmont or in neighboring areas within the Town of Claverack
