Thanks to the generous support of Humanities NY, poet and Philmont resident Karen Schoemer will lead a reading and discussion group about the work of 20th century author James Baldwin. A novelist, essayist, poet and playwright, Baldwin is one of the most important American thinkers on the subject of race and democracy. His work continues to resonate through American literature, film, music and theater; his 1963 non-fiction book The Fire Next Time is a landmark of the civil rights movement.

Arthur King will show a collection of photographs from his early black and white images from a vanished New York City of the 1950’s, to more recent views of a dynamic New York and street art.
Hudson and the Hudson Valley is now his main focus, from nature to man's impact on the area.
Arthur presents his work as observations of the immediate environment straight from the camera, with no set-ups, no Photoshop, little cropping. He has a wide range of images and a few films, all without studying photography.
